Accessibility Information

Disablement Information & Advice Line (D.I.A.L) is committed to supporting initiatives that makes web site content available to all users. For whatever reasons some users prefer alternative font styles and sizes also colour schemes. Below are instructions for changing the browser settings for MS Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. If you require details for other browsers then Contact.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Before changing your browser settings:

  • larger text size means less information on screen and more page scrolling
  • you will need to Reload or Refresh the page to engage new settings

 

BROWSER TYPES

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5+

Improving Colour Contrast:

  1. From the menu bar at the top, pull down the Tools menu
  2. Select Internet Options
  3. Click on the Accessibility button that is near the bottom
  4. Check the box next to "Ignore colours specified on web pages"
  5. Click on OK once to return to the options menu
  6. Click on the Colours button that is near the bottom
  7. Deselect "Use Windows colours" (uncheck the checkbox)
  8. Click on the colour that you wish to modify (text, background or links)
  9. Click on the desired colour from the colour palette
  10. Click on OK once to return to the Colours menu
  11. Click on OK again when you've completed your changes
  12. With the second click, the colours on your screen should change
  13. Experiment with a variety of combinations until you find the one that is most comfortable for reading on-screen

Increasing Font Size:

  1. From the menu bar at the top, pull down the View menu
  2. Select Text Size
  3. There are 5 choices, ranging from smallest to largest
  4. Select a new font style
  5. Some experimentation may be necessary

 

Netscape Navigator 6

Improving Colour Contrast:

  1. From the menu bar at the top, pull down the Edit menu
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Click on Colours, listed under Appearances on the left side of the dialog box
  4. Deselect "system colours"(uncheck the checkbox)
  5. Click on the colour that you wish to modify (text, background or links)
  6. Click on the desired colour from the colour palette
  7. Click OK

Increasing Font Size:

  1. From the menu bar at the top, pull down the Edit menu
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Click on Fonts, which is listed under Appearances
  4. Choose a font size from the options listed
  5. Click on the desired font size from the pull-down menu
  6. Click OK
  7. There are many options of font size. Experiment with sizes to determine the optimum for you
